Day 1

ARRIVAL / NEGOMBO – (30KM – approximately ½-hour drive)

On arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport, you will get your first taste of warm Sri Lankan hospitality; Representative from Aakash Asia Ceylon will Welcome you and proceed directly to Negombo and check in to the hotel.

Dinner and overnight stay in Negombo.

Day 2

NEGOMBO / ANURADHAPURA – (180KM – approximately 4-hour drive)

After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Anuradhapura.

*Anuradhapura is a one of major city in Sri Lanka. It is the capital city of North Central Province, Sri Lanka. Anuradhapura is the First Kingdom of Sri Lanka, famous for its well-preserved ruins of ancient Sri Lankan civilization. It believed that from the 4th Century BC until beginning of the 11th Century AD it was the Capital of the Sinhalese. During this period, it remained one of the most stable and durable centers of political power and urban life in South Asia. The ancient city, considered sacred to the Buddhist world, is today surrounding by monasteries covering an area of over 40sqkm (16sq mi). The city, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site was the centre of Theravada Buddhism for many centuries. It is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world. And one of the ten world heritage sites of Sri Lanka.

Upon arrive commence Anuradhapura Ancient City Tour.

*Ancient City Tour – Sri Maha Bodhi Tree (Sacred Tree), Ruwanveli Stupa, Brazen Palace, Thuparama Stupa, Abayagiri Monastery, Samadhi Buddha Statue, Twin Ponds, Moon Stone and Guard Stone.

Dinner and overnight stay in Anuradhapura.

Day 3

ANURADHAPURA / MIHINTALE / AVUKANA / POLONNARUWA – (160KM – approximately 4-hour drive

After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Mihintale.

*Mihintale is a mountain peak near Anuradhapura. It is believed by Sri Lankan to be the site of a meeting between the Buddhist monk Mahinda and King Devanampiyatissa which inaugurated the presence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. It is now a pilgrim site, and the site of several religious monuments and abandoned structures.

On completion proceed to visit Avukana Buddha Statue.

*Avukana Buddha Statue is a standing statue of the Buddha. The statue, which has a height of more than 40feet, has benn carved out of a large granite rock face during 5th Century A.D. It depicrs a variation of the Abhaya Mudra (Posture) and the closely worn robe is elaborated carved. Constructed during the region of King Dhatusena. Avukana Buddha Statue is one of the best example of a standing statue constructed in ancient Sri Lanka.

On completion proceed to Polonnaruwa.

*Polonnaruwa, the 2nd most ancient kingdom of Sri Lanka is an interesting mix of Buddhist and Hindu structures that are a testament to the different kings who reigned over this ancient kingdom.Polonnaruwa rose to prominence between the 11th and 13th centuries and thrived during the reign of the famous monarch, King Parakramabahu I, who did much to create a resplendent city. His greatest achievement was the construction of the sea of Parakrama, a huge water reservoir spanning an area of 6280 acres. The ruins at Polonnaruwa are within walking distance and many of them set in tree-shaded areas, a welcome refuge from the tropical sun. This ancient city is one of the best planned archeological relic sites in the country, standing testimony to the discipline and greatness of the Kingdom's first rulers. In 1982 UNESCO declared Ancient City of Polonnaruwa as a World Heritage Site.

Day 4

POLONNARUWA / DAMBULLA – (80KM – approximately 2-hour drive)

After breakfast at the hotel, commence Polonnaruwa Ancient City Tour.

*Ancient City Tour – Gal Vihara Complex, Rankoth Vehera, Thiwanka Image House, Royal Palace, Royal Pond, Council Chamber and The Quadrangle.

On completion proceed to Dambulla.

*Dambulla cave temple also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla is a World Heritage Site (1991) in Sri Lanka, situated in the central part of the country. It is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 m over the surrounding plains. There are more than 80 documented caves in the surrounding area. Major attractions are spread over five caves, which contain statues and paintings.

Dinner and overnight stay in Dambulla.

Day 5

DAMBULLA / KANDY – (90KM – approximately 2-hour drive)

After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to visit Alu Vihara Temple.

*The Aluvihara Rock Temple (also called as Matale Alu Vihara) is a sacred Buddhist temple located in Aluvihare, Matale District of Sri Lanka. Surrounded by hill, the Aluvihara cave temple is situated 30kms north of Kandy on the Kandy – Matale main road. The history of Aluvihara Rock Temple is traced back to the 3rd Century B.C to the reign of King Devanampiyatissa. It is believed that the King built the dagoba, planted the Bo sapling and founded the temple after the introducing of Buddhism to the country during his reign. Aluvihara Rock Temple was the historic location where the Pali Canon was first written down completely in text on ola (palm) leaves. Many monastery caves, some of which exhibit frescoes are situated near this temple.

On completion proceed to Kandy.

*KANDY – which is a UNESCO world heritage site. The historical city about 480m above from sea level surrounded by mountains was known to Sri Lankan as Kanda Uda Rata, which means the Hill Country. Kandy was home to Sri Lanka’s last independent Kingdom, which survived two centuries of colonial incursion before finally falling to the British at the beginning of the 19th Century.

Upon arrive commence Kandy City Tour.

*Kandy City Tour - Kandy Lake Round, Upper Lake Drive, View Point, Art and Craft Centre, Gem Museum, Batik, Silk and Woodcarving Factories.

Evening visiting Temple of Tooth Relic.

*Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha.

Later evening witness experience a colorful show where you will be takes to mind blowing Sri Lankan culture extravaganza. Including fire walking. Get ready for heavy drum beat and acrobatic act.

Day 6

KANDY / KALUTARA – (160KM – approximately 5-hour drive)

After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Kalutara. Upon arrive visit Kalutara Temple.

Kalutara Temple, is a Bodhi Tree (Sacred Fig) located in Kaluatara. Situated on the Galle – Colombo main road by the side of Kalu River. It is believed to be one of the 32 saplings of the Jaya Sri maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura. A Buddhist temple, Kaluatara Vihara and a modern Stupa are near this sacred tree. This is one of the most venerated religious place in Sri Lanka, hundreds of Buddhists visit this religious place every day.

Rests of the day leisure on the Kalutara Beach.

Day 7

KALUTARA / COLOMBO – (60KM – approximately 1-hour drive)

After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Colombo.

*Colombo, the Commercial Capital of Sri Lanka, is a bustling city and a hopping-off point for beaches in the island nation's south. It has a long history as a port on ancient east-west trade routes, ruled successively by the Portuguese, Dutch and British. That heritage is reflected in its spicy cuisine as well as its architecture, mixing colonial buildings with high-rises and shopping malls.

Upon arrive visit Kelaniya Temple.

*Kelaniya Temple is a Buddhist Temple situated close to Colombo. Buddhist believe the temple to have been hallowed during the third and final visit of the Buddha to Sri Lanka, eight years after gaining enlightenment. The Mahawansa records that the original Chaithya at Kelaniya enshrine gem-studded throne on which the Buddha sat and preached.

Visit Gangarama Temple.

*Gangarama Temple, is one of the most important temple in Colombo City, being a mix of modern architecture and cultural essence.

Afterward commence Colombo City Tour.

*Colombo City Tour - Visiting Colombo Light house, Light house with Clock Tower designed by Lady Ward (built before the Big Ben in London), Galle Face Promenade with cannons of World War II, South Expansion of the Colombo Harbour, York Street with remnants of British Colonial Architecture, Slave Island are, famous Hindu Kovil with unique carved gopuram, Nelum Pokuna Theater, Viharamahadevi Park, Colombo Town Hall, BMICH, Independence Square, the scenic Beira Lake in the heart of the city, the War Memorial, Public Library, National Museum and many more interesting places.
